Emotional Freedom Technique tapping guilt over spending money

Emotional Freedom tapping for guilt over wasting money

We all have times when we buy something excitedly, only to discover that the product just isn’t all that it’s jazzed up to be. It may even be downright worthless. You could return it for a refund. But when a product fails to live up to your expectations, it isn’t just about the money.

Money is definitely a factor in things that are non-refundable big ticket items. But buying into aggressive selling can raise other doubts in our minds. About how well we can decide for ourselves and whether we’ll ever learn to decide better. This mixed with disappointment and anger about wasted time and fallen hopes is a recipe for a long term regret about that purchase.

Sometimes the hype about things can drive us to the point of pulling out our wallets without first consulting our common sense. Outside factors including advertising can create a faux need in our minds to the point that we are almost desperate to shell out the money.

The message lies in that desperation often leads to purchases that bring disappointment, since in such a state of mind we don’t think very clearly. How about we try tapping to see if we can be more confident about our next purchase? If you wince silently whenever you see an item you purchased, you could benefit from tapping using that purchase as your focus.

Tapping through this EFT script takes about 10 minutes.

EFT tapping set up

Karate chop

Even though I feel so disappointed in my purchase, I deeply and completely love, accept and forgive myself anyway.

Even though I made a wrong decision and bought a loser product, I’m open to learning to decide better which products are truly good for me and which ones I can pass.

Even though I’m angry that I wasted money on this useless stuff, I want to stop wasting my energy and precious time sulking about it.

Even though I keep buying wrong stuff on impulse, and I’m afraid I’ll do it again, I want to be able to choose better the next time I’m faced with temptation.

Even though I often get sucked in by all the snazzy salesmanship and hypnotic advertising, I want to use common sense over temptation when making a purchase.

Even though they made it seem to me like I needed this product, and I obviously don’t, starting now I choose to listen to myself first about what I really need.

EFT tapping round 1

Eyebrow    I feel so disappointed!

Side of the eye    Did I really pay for this $#*@?

Under the eye    I made a wrong choice, yet again.

Under the nose    It’s like I’m looking for reasons to throw away money.

Chin    Why do I do this to myself?

Collar bone    I just can’t decide right, can I?

Under the arm    This regret about wasting money.

Top of the head    I got sucked in by all the salesmanship.

EFT tapping round 2

Eyebrow    And created a picture in my mind

Side of the eye    where owning this thing would be most perfect.

Under the eye    I so wanted this thing to work for me.

Under the nose    All this wasted money, I’m so angry.

Chin    I’m mad at them for wasting my money.

Collar bone    I’m mad at them for raising my hopes.

Under the arm    Maybe I just wanted to emulate someone through my purchase.

Top of the head    Maybe someone suggested that I should want this thing.

EFT tapping round 3

Eyebrow    So I worked myself up to the point of desperation.

Side of the eye    Or at least wanting it bad enough

Under the eye    to risk making a bad choice.

Under the nose    Desperation always drives me to make wrong choices.

Chin    It makes me run before I can walk.

Collar bone    It drives me to make hasty decisions.

Under the arm    What if I hadn’t bought this thing?

Top of the head    Would I have been happier? Probably not.

EFT tapping round 4

Eyebrow    Because the desperate desire to own it

Side of the eye    wouldn’t have let me rest easy.

Under the eye    So now that I have bought it

Under the nose    and I’m disappointed in my choice,

Chin    it’s like I’ve traded desperation for disappointment.

Collar bone    What if I could learn to keep my desperation in check?

Under the arm    What if I could feel good before AND after a purchase?

Top of the head    What if I could learn to keep the intensity of my desires

EFT tapping round 5

Eyebrow    at a point where it feels good to have that desire?

Side of the eye    Instead of feeling an adrenaline rush from desperation.

Under the eye    I choose to feel good about the things that I do want.

Under the nose    So that I can send out a happy signal

Chin    to the universe instead of a desperate SOS call.

Collar bone    I choose to forgive myself for all the past desperation,

Under the arm    for buying things I probably didn’t need, or even want.

Top of the head    I don’t need to live with this guilt about wasted money.

EFT tapping round 6

Eyebrow    I cannot beat myself up enough to right this wrong.

Side of the eye    So I choose to release all this guilt.

Under the eye    I choose to release all this anger at myself and others.

Under the nose    I choose to release all this regret about wasted money.

Chin    I choose to forgive myself for my hasty purchases.

Collar bone    I choose to forgive all others who have contributed

Under the arm    to my desperation and regret.

Top of the head    I choose to be filled with positive expectation

EFT tapping round 7

Eyebrow    about the things I do want and need.

Side of the eye    I choose to make the most of the money I spend.

Under the eye    I allow the universe to bring good things into my life.

Under the nose    Things that better match the images in my mind.

Chin    Starting now, I choose to listen to myself first

Collar bone    about what will truly bring me joy and satisfaction.

Under the arm    I choose to be calm, confident and hopeful

Top of the head    of making the right choices in the future.

Repeat tapping through the script if you feel the need to do so. For additional clearing, repeat tapping with a few other bad purchases as your focus.

One Response to 10 Minutes to Tapping Away Guilt over a Bad Purchase

I recently wasted a huge sum of money on something that was not a must have but a good to have. I realise i wont even be able to use it for another year due to some circumstances. I was dying of guilt. Your article has made me feel less guilty. Thank you for this.
